Our group will see what is the most effective way to clean and purify water. We will be contacting some organizations that are trying to solve this problem. When we have seen a few ways to clean water, we will compare them and see what is the best way to clean water.

Our Question:

What is the most effective way to purify water?

Organizations that are working to solve this problem are:

Organizations that help reduce water scarcity are LifeStraw and PUR.  LifeStraw is a 

team who creates tubes to filter water, and they call these tubes life straws.  Their 

website's defintion of this tube is "portable water filter for prevention of common 

diarrhoeal disease;it can be carried around for easy access to safe and clean drinking 

water.  PUR is a grup who create tablets to put in dirty water, and you wait a few minutes. 

Then, you drink the water because it has now been purified.

Our question is, how do people contribute to water poullion? By researching the data and research needed. We will have to work at our hardest to get to that answer. This is a hard goal to over come. We need to work effictely  together. We all think we can get to that goal.

Blog #1 Team Mercury : Paige Wessels, Alex Garcia, Lance Currey, Manny Tam

Our team chose to investigate how to help stop mercury from unnatural causes from getting into water and fish.  some things that cause mercury to get into the water and then into the fish is Coal incineration, Alkali and metal processing, and Medical and other waste. This is bad because the people that eat these fish then get mercury poisoning. We think that we can solve this problem by being aware of where the mercury polluted water is so we don't eat those fish, and by not putting the waste into the water so it won't become polluted.

About Typhoid:

    Typhoid Fever is a disease caused by the bacteria Salmonella Typhi. It is spread through food and water. Usually, it's spread through either exposure to raw sewage that has feces from a "carrier", or it is spread from being exposed to food or beverage that has been handled by a carrier. Countries such as lower class African countries, or lower class South American countries are exposed to Typhoid Fever more frequently because handwashing is less frequent and raw sewage is exposed more to people. Once inside, Salmonella Typhi will spread through the blood stream and infect the whole body.

Our group is researching plastic. They are bad because plastic takes a long time to biodegrate. Another reason is that they can get into marine animals and seabirds and kill them. There is a huge garbage patch with 46,000 pieces of plastic that is twice the size of France killing a million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals per year.

Our group is researching oil spills. Oil spills are very bad for the ocean in many ways, for example, the creatures in the ocean can be affected very negatively. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is still doing damage to undersea life, there was a recent article that described how coral life near the source of the oil is dying, this is bad because many types of fish and plants need the coral to survive. we hope to find a solution that will help end oil spills.

We are doing our project on the Pacific Garbge Patch.This is one on of the biggest Garbge that their this in the world.This is two times as big a taxes .The pacific gabge patch cover over 40 % of our ocean.This has being going on for a long time now.We should care because this is killing lots of  sea animails.
