                   Main Question: How the sewage affects us? 

          We are the Dirty Truth and we are researching about San Marcos Sewage Spills. And we are wondering about what had caused  the sewage spill  to happen.And also how was it caused and when was it caused. This is important for the world because we could see that the sewage is being  spilled and that is damaging the water. This information is important because we could see that 5,440 gallons of sewage was spilled.

Our group will see what is the most effective way to clean and purify water. We will be contacting some organizations that are trying to solve this problem. When we have seen a few ways to clean water, we will compare them and see what is the best way to clean water.

Our Question:

What is the most effective way to purify water?

Organizations that are working to solve this problem are:

Organizations that help reduce water scarcity are LifeStraw and PUR.  LifeStraw is a 

team who creates tubes to filter water, and they call these tubes life straws.  Their 

website's defintion of this tube is "portable water filter for prevention of common 

diarrhoeal disease;it can be carried around for easy access to safe and clean drinking 

water.  PUR is a grup who create tablets to put in dirty water, and you wait a few minutes. 

Then, you drink the water because it has now been purified.

Blog #1 Team Mercury : Paige Wessels, Alex Garcia, Lance Currey, Manny Tam

Our team chose to investigate how to help stop mercury from unnatural causes from getting into water and fish.  some things that cause mercury to get into the water and then into the fish is Coal incineration, Alkali and metal processing, and Medical and other waste. This is bad because the people that eat these fish then get mercury poisoning. We think that we can solve this problem by being aware of where the mercury polluted water is so we don't eat those fish, and by not putting the waste into the water so it won't become polluted.

About Typhoid:

    Typhoid Fever is a disease caused by the bacteria Salmonella Typhi. It is spread through food and water. Usually, it's spread through either exposure to raw sewage that has feces from a "carrier", or it is spread from being exposed to food or beverage that has been handled by a carrier. Countries such as lower class African countries, or lower class South American countries are exposed to Typhoid Fever more frequently because handwashing is less frequent and raw sewage is exposed more to people. Once inside, Salmonella Typhi will spread through the blood stream and infect the whole body.

Our group is researching plastic. They are bad because plastic takes a long time to biodegrate. Another reason is that they can get into marine animals and seabirds and kill them. There is a huge garbage patch with 46,000 pieces of plastic that is twice the size of France killing a million seabirds and 100,000 marine animals per year.

Our group is researching oil spills. Oil spills are very bad for the ocean in many ways, for example, the creatures in the ocean can be affected very negatively. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is still doing damage to undersea life, there was a recent article that described how coral life near the source of the oil is dying, this is bad because many types of fish and plants need the coral to survive. we hope to find a solution that will help end oil spills.

We are doing our project on the Pacific Garbge Patch.This is one on of the biggest Garbge that their this in the world.This is two times as big a taxes .The pacific gabge patch cover over 40 % of our ocean.This has being going on for a long time now.We should care because this is killing lots of  sea animails.

Our group topic is about sewage pollution in Africa, Peru and the United States. All around the world sewage pollution has been affecting sea life and drinking water. Due to Africa's poor sewage system human  waste has been spilling into the water ways and is becoming more difficult to clean. Peru's Lake Titicaca is being polluted with 12 million cubic meters of sewage water dumped yearly. If we don't improve our sewage systems it will get worse.

We found that sewage pollution is caused by feices from animals and us.  In the uk there is been a problem with sewage pollution.  we are still researching more and trying to find videos about the issue.  They haven't updated yet as of right now what the status is on it.

The main problem we are working on is water wastage. Water wastage is a big problem because in first world contries peopel take water for granite and waste it often. But, in 3rd and 2nd world contries they dont have water due to other contries wasting water.

Questions:

           1.Do 2nd and 3rd World countries have little, dirty water becuase they dont have the technology, or because 1st world countries are wasting it all.

1. Americans now use 127 percent more water than we did in 1950.
2. About 95 percent of the water entering our homes goes down the drain.
3. Running the tap while brushing your teeth can waste 4 gallons of water.
4. Older toilets can use 3 gallons of clean water with every flush, while new toilets use as little as 1 gallon.
5. Leaky faucets that drip at the rate of one drop per second can waste up to 2,700 gallons of water each year.
6. A garden hose or sprinkler can use almost as much water in an hour as an average family of four uses in one day.
7. A water-efficient dishwasher will use as little a 4 gallons per wash cycle, whereas some older models use up to 13 gallons per cycle.
8. Some experts estimate that more than 50 percent of landscape water use goes to waste due to evaporation or runoff caused by over-watering.
9. Many people in the world exist on 3 gallons of water per day or less. We can use that amount in one flush of the toilet.
10. Over a quarter of all the clean, drinkable water you use in your home is used to flush the toilets.         1. Humans use more and more water each year.

Supermen Oil Spill Team

Our group project is on oil spills in the gulf of Mexico, Alaska, and China. We are concerned about the amount of oil produced around the globe, and from time to time the spills that occur when an oil rig blows. Just recently, the BP Spill let at least 185 gallons of oil into the ocean. Along with the China and Alaska oil spills, the amount of oil spilled in just 3 spills was over 5,160,000 barrels of oil! There's so much oil in our oceans after all of the spills in history, we want to find out how to stop it.

we have found out that marine debris is techniullay littering but in the ocean and it means that when ships reck or just drop stuff over board all the sluppies or thing are called debri.

They Need Water

They Need Water is one of our groups focusing water scarsity in Africa, Asia, and Austraila. These three places all have one thing in common even though they are in very different places. They have very little water for everything and everyone. Water is vatal to live, and the fact they have no water is trapping them in a constant cycle of underdevelopment. These places have 2ed and 3rd world countries.

Some Stats:

• 1 BILLION people go without water every day
• 1 child dies every 15 seconds because of this issue
• 25% of kids die because of the dirty water they must drink
• AIDS and HIV infected die quicker because water is necessary to them to live
• More infants die then necessary because boiling doesn't get all the desises out
• Perth, Austraila has had a 21% decrese in rainfall over the last 10 years, stream flow has decreased by 65%
• Population increases by 3% per year, and 750+ famlies move to Austraila a week
• Asia can't keep up with the rice demands because of water scarsity
